Therapy & Case Management

Safe Harbor offers therapy and case management to adults who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse. We also offer therapy and case management for children ages 6-17 who have witnessed domestic abuse and their non-abusive parents. 

Our therapy and case management services are offered to the community free of charge. Our goal is to provide support and walk with you on your journey towards healing.

Once you have submitted the online form, you should hear back from a member of our team within five business days to schedule your first appointment.

  • What services are offered for adults?

    Safe Harbor offers individual therapy and case management services to adult survivors of domestic abuse in Anderson, Greenville, Oconee and Pickens Counties. 

    These services offer an opportunity to discuss a range of topics related to domestic abuse, such as: 

    • Learning about the dynamics of domestic abuse and its effects on you
    • Developing safety plans
    • Addressing past and present trauma due to abuse
    • Addressing negative feelings caused by abuse
    • Learning coping strategies
    • Connecting with social support and community resources

    Safe Harbor also offers domestic abuse education classes through an online, self-paced course featuring 8 lessons.

    We are also in the process of revamping our support groups (both therapist and survivor-led) and encourage you to check back for updates.

    These services are confidential and free of charge.

  • What services are offered for children?

    Safe Harbor offers therapy and case management services to children ages 6-17 who have witnessed domestic abuse and their non-abusive parent in Anderson, Greenville, Oconee and Pickens Counties. 

    Therapy Services:

    • Trauma-informed therapy to children impacted by domestic abuse
    • Individual and family therapy sessions to help children process emotions and experiences
    • Support for parents in understanding and responding to their child's trauma-related behaviors

    Case Management Services:

    • Assessments to identify family needs, strengths, and barriers
    • Development of safety plans for children and their safe parent
    • Crisis intervention and emotional support
    • Assistance to families navigating systems such as child welfare, legal services, and schools
    • Connection to community resources, including housing, childcare, limited financial assistance, and transportation assistance to therapy sessions

  • How do I start services?

  • What can I expect as I begin services?

    Once you have completed an intake to begin services, you will hear from a member of our community services team within 5 business days. Please be sure that your voicemail is set-up and clear, so we can leave you a message if you are unable to answer when we call. 

    A member of our community services team will contact you to set up an initial time to meet. During this first meeting, we will review our services with you and complete an assessment to learn more about your experience with domestic abuse and how we can assist you. 

    Please be sure to make arrangements for childcare during your appointments at Safe Harbor. We are not able to provide on-site childcare, and children cannot be left unattended in our waiting area. Please talk with your therapist or case manager if you are having trouble securing childcare. 

  • How long can I receive services?

    Length of time in services will depend on an individual’s needs and goals.

    Typically for therapy, we offer up to 12 sessions. You and your therapist will regularly reassess your needs to determine if Safe Harbor is the best resource to help you reach your goals.

    In addition, we offer referrals to other community resources as needed.

  • Will anyone find out I am receiving services?

    With a few exceptions that your therapist will review with you (such as mandated reporting of abuse/neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, plans to harm yourself or someone else, or court order from a judge), therapy and case management are confidential.

    Safe Harbor will not share with anyone (including case workers, attorneys, family, or friends) that you are receiving our services, without your written consent.

  • I was referred by DSS. What services do you offer and am I required to participate?

    Safe Harbor offers individual therapy and case management services as well as domestic abuse education classes that are all DSS-approved.

    It is your choice to participate in any of Safe Harbor’s services.
