How can you help Safe Harbor in the battle against Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence is a difficult issue to address or even openly discuss. Many people believe this is something we only see on TV and that it does not happen in the beautiful upstate of South Carolina. Family violence should not be kept a secret though; by suppressing it, we are only adding to the devastation. We are therefore asking you to help draw attention to domestic violence in the upstate. There are a number of ways you can partner with Safe Harbor in an effort to reach women and children affected by domestic violence and to educate our community on the reality of the devastation that results from family violence right here in our own community:

Get Educated!
Whether for 15 minutes or an hour, we'd love the opportunity to share more with you regarding the facts about domestic violence and the process of intervention. Invite us to speak to or train your group members on how to deal with domestic abuse. We have brochures and educational materials to pass along to our community partners, as well as a curriculum designed for youth audiences regarding dating violence. Our professional counselors are ready to help anyone with support groups or individual sessions.

Volunteer!
Safe Harbor is supported in large part by Hope Chest, the agency's resale store, located at 2111-J North Pleasantburg Drive in Foothills plaza on the corner of Pleasantburg and Rutherford Road. Safe Harbor's clients "shop" at Hope Chest cost-free for themselves and their children, because many are forced to leave their homes with only the clothing on their backs. Items not needed by clients are resold; all profits are then used to support our domestic violence shelters. Hope Chest is currently in dire need of community support in the form of hands-on volunteer work. Volunteers may come as individuals, in groups, for one hour, or for entire days. Volunteers may also get involved directly at the shelter following a three-hour volunteer training and application process. If you'd like further information or to get involved as a volunteer, contact Samantha Tucker, Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, at 467-1177 or samantha.tucker@safeharborsc.org.
